Year 3 Blog - 07.02.2025

7th February 2025

We have had a busy couple of weeks in year 3. The children have had a wonderful workshop with safety Seymour to look at carbon monoxide and how to keep us safe. We have been learning more about Frankie Banister and his peculiar friends in the Nothing to see here hotel. The children have been working very hard on their swimming skills and made sure they are entering and exiting the pool safely along with developing their technique in the water.

In our writing lessons we have been preparing to write our very own seasonal poem. The children have begun by exploring the different seasons. We have looked at what the weather is like, the colours we would expect to see, what happens all around us such as plants and trees and finally what animals appear during these months. This has helped the children to gather some valuable information which will help them when they are writing their own poems.

In maths we have begun our new topic exploring all things to do with multiplication and division. We have begun by exploring the different ways multiplication and division can be represented through arrays and bar models. The children had some problems which they created bar models for to help them solve the problem. We then explored commutativity and how this applies multiplication the children used their knowledge to explore different calculations and see if changing the numbers affected their answer.

In R.E. We have been exploring what a miracle is. We began by looking at different scenarios and identifying if they were magic or miracles. The children then applied their knowledge to see if Jesus performed magic or miracles. We then moved onto explore why Christians believe that Jesus performed miracles.

We have also been exploring mental health this week. The children have explored emotions and have created their own personality island. They have created their own island identifying six characteristics that are unique to them and exploring how this makes them who they are.

In P.E. We have been working on our gymnastic skills. We were focusing on different rolls and mastering our technique. The children began by trying a barrel roll, before moving on to the dish hold. We then talked about the different techniques required for these rolls and how they both worked different muscles. We then explored a pencil roll making sure our bodies were as straight as possible and following a path when rolling. Finally we looked at forward rolls and focused on our technique. We then put all the rolls together to form a sequence.
