This term in English, Year 4 has been learning about the plague, including where it started and its symptoms. We’ve discovered that the plague spread from rats in London and caused fever, chills, and painful swellings. To bring our learning to life, we are writing our own playscripts, with characters including John and Lizzie who lived on a farm in the small village of Eyam!
We’ve just finished our topic on time and are excited to begin our next adventure into decimals! As we dive into decimals, we’ll also be spotting the link between decimals and fractions, helping us understand how they’re connected. It’s going to be a fun and interesting topic!
During Science Week, Year 4 had a blast making glaciers out of ice and learning about global warming and climate change. We explored how these issues are affecting our planet and connected our findings to our current topic on states of matter. We also took part in a workshop about how things change and adapt, linking science to real-world problems!
This term, we’ve started reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis as our new whole class reader. We’ve been learning about evacuees and what life was like during World War II, and we even made predictions about what might be hidden inside the magical wardrobe. We’re excited to see what happens next in the story!
In Forest School, Year 4 has been getting creative with nature! We used a saw to carefully cut stems of plants, then turned them into beads to make our own bracelets and necklaces. It was a fun and hands-on way to connect with nature while learning new skills!
In our cooking lessons, Year 4 followed a basic biscuit recipe and learned how to measure ingredients like flour, sugar, and butter. Each group focused on a different skill, including weighing and sieving, mixing, rolling, and using cookie cutters. We had a great time baking and enjoyed tasting our delicious biscuits!
