We have had a very busy couple of weeks in Year 5! In English, we completed our writing topic about Non-Chronological reports by researching an endangered animal and using the writing shapes to compose our own Non-Chronological report. We have also been learning about word classes and tenses and practicing our handwriting too.
In Maths, we have been learning about transformations. We learnt about translating and reflecting shapes and we also learnt about naming and finding coordinates in a quadrant. We began our new topic all about time, where we have been converting between minutes, seconds and hours and converting between years and months.
In Science, we completed our Plants and Living things topic, where we researched, wrote and compared the life cycle of different animals and created a piece of work of our choice on another animal life cycle. Some of us made information posters, others created a drama piece and some children even created a poem. We had a fantastic Science Week! We took part in an investigation where we looked at how global warming is changing the landscape of Antarctica and we discussed how this affects all of the fauna and flora living in Antarctica. We took part in a fantastic Adaptation workshop where we learnt about how amazing nature is with camouflage, mimicry and adapting to the environment. We have now begun our new topic on Humans and other animals, and we have started off by learning and researching about the gestation periods of various animals.
We had an amazing World Book Day!
